This painting is based on a small opening in the forest that I pass regularly on the drive to and from my cottage. Especially in the fall, the shift between light and shadow in this spot creates a strong sense of depth. The scene is simplified into restrained forms, allowing perspective and contrast to carry the composition.

Original painting signed by the artist.
